Thanks for your interest in supporting efforts to rebuild Puerto Rico. Either donate to our project by scrolling down, or join us March 20-27, 2018!  Click HERE and let us know you're interested. Here are the details:

  • Project:  We’ll be partnering with the Rotary Club of San Juan to rebuild the YWCA of San Juan, which provides support to low-income children. We’ll be rebuilding the kitchen and bathrooms, and installing new doors & windows. The Rotary Club of San Juan is providing a construction foreman, and $2,500 towards this project.
  • Cost:  We’re estimating $1,500/person (based on double occupancy).  Here’s the break down:
    • Flights — ~$600:  You’d be responsible for purchasing your own flight.  March is “high season” for Puerto Rico, so flights could go up, but currently, there are flights as low as $423 for round trip tickets on JetBlue. Everyone would meet at the hotel when they can on March 20th or 21st.
    • Accommodations— as low as $560:  We'll be staying at a family-run hotel— the Dream Inn.  It's a few blocks from the beach, has power, and in the center of everything (with a super cute bakery across the street & 20 restaurants within a 5-10 minute walk).  It's also just 5 miles from the airport, and a mile or two from the YWCA.  Nimu, the owner, is giving us a deal to stay $155/room/night (queen bed per room) with breakfast. There are other hotels nearby if you’d like to shop around, but we've had Rotarians stay there, and they've reported that it is safe, comfortable, and perfect for a group like ours.  To make a reservation, call Nimu at 787-200-6340 and let her know you're with Miriam Barth's Rotary group.
    • Food— ~$210:  There are tons of great restaurants downtown San Juan.  We can dine together, or let everyone go out on their own. Unless you wanna get fancy, $10-20/meal should be good (breakfasts are included at the Dream Inn).
    • Transportation— $100:  We'll be taking taxis/Uber, so budget $100 for transportation for the trip.
    • Medical emergency insurance— $40:  Better safe than sorry. We can help you set up with Wallach and Company, which offers excellent insurance if something should happen on the trip.
